That was my motto for today. Cal spent the session entirely introverted, switching between confident and unconfident throughout the session.
I have little practice at motivating LBI's, but I happened to toss some treats in my pockets. Still, we wound up doing pretty low key things. Farrier prep, review of driving from zone 3, lots of friendly game, back by the tail, walking figure-8's, etc.
Then I had a delightful liberty session in the pasture. Just did really basic porcupine and driving...and some figure-8's! Cal stuck with me in the wide-open pasture with the rest of the herd around. =) It's small, maybe, but big things start small. Haha...or so I hope.
A general observation today: When I go to get Cal I get kind of direct line after I get the halter on. I just want to get to the arena to play. Perhaps as a result, I've lately been having to work to get Cal to walk up there with me. He gets reluctant, hanging back, leaning against the halter. So a goal for me this week when I play is to see if I can get him confident and willing to walk to just the arena with me. It's kind of funny, but it's a lot of those simple things that really cause me trouble and, in the end, make such a huge difference in our relationship.
